MANILA, Philippines - Ellie Day, the wife of professional golfer Jason Day, left her court side seat for the Cleveland Cavaliers vs Oklahoma City Thunder game on a stretcher on Friday, December 18 after LeBron James crashed into her while chasing a loose ball.
The incident happened with 3:07 remaining in the fourth quarter. Day remained down for several minutes as she received attention from medical professionals at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio.
Day eventually was fitted with a neck brace and stretchered from court side and taken to an area hospital. Craig Sager of TNT reported on air that she was conscious and communicating with medical personnel after the incident.
James, who stands 6-foot-8 and weighs approximately 250 pounds, was noticeably shaken by the incident. Day's wife reportedly squeezed his hand and reassured that she was OK before being taken away.
"It wasn't anything out of the usual besides the injury," James was quoted by Agence France-Presse. "But to me, obviously her health is very important and hopefully she's doing well.
"I was going for a loose ball. Just trying to keep a possession going and I hate that was the end result of it."
Jason Day, a Filipino-Australian whose family hails from Leyte, is currently ranked no. 2 in the world by the PGA and is coming off a year where he won his first major title, the 2015 PGA Championship.
