MANILA, Philippines – After going down in history as a silver medalist in the Rio Olympics Sunday, August 7 (Monday, August 8 in Manila), Filipino weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz was excited to eat some pizza at the athletes' dining hall in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Diaz copped the silver, the country's first Olympic medal in 20 years, in the women's 53-kg weightlifting and effectively wrote herself into Philippine sports lore for generations to come as the first Filipina to win an Olympic medal, the first medalist from Mindanao, and the first medalist in Olympic weightlifting.
After supporting fellow lifter Nestor Colonia, who fell short of a medal in men's 56-kg, she proceeded to grab a bite of pizza, breaking her meticulous diet, as shown on her Facebook Live broadcast on her personal account.
The 25-year-old also made sure to get a cup of rice to eat with the adobo, a famed Filipino dish, waiting for the athletes in their quarters. According to Spin.ph, the chicken and pork adobo was from the Philippine ambassador to Brazil. – Rappler.com
