MANILA, Philippines – Ateneo High School student Jolo Mendoza has committed to joining the Ateneo Blue Eagles for the UAAP senior’s division, Rappler learned on Monday, February 29.
Mendoza's choice for his collegiate basketball career was confirmed by Blue Eagles team manager Epok Quimpo.
Mendoza, who is also a mainstay for the national team, was the Finals MVP of the UAAP Season 77 juniors championship round where Ateneo beat NU to win the title.
In the juniors tournament of UAAP Season 78, Mendoza averaged 16.6 points, 3 rebounds, and 1.4 assists a game while shooting 40% from downtown. He led his team to the Final Four round, where they fell to De La Salle Zobel.
Mendoza played for Batang Gilas for both the 2013 FIBA U16 tournament and the 2014 FIBA World U17 Championship.
The news of Mendoza’s commitment comes right after Tyler Tio announced his commitment to Ateneo.
The two new recruits will join Ateneo’s young and talented roster led by new Blue Eagles head coach Tab Baldwin.
Holdovers from last year’s team include Arvin Tolentino, Adrian Wong and Aaron Black. Former NCAA star CJ Perez is also expected to join the team after serving his year of residency. – Rappler.com
