MANILA, Philippines – The elimination round is over and as we ring in the holidays, we also enter the 2016 PBA Philippine Cup playoffs.
The brackets are set with top seed Alaska Aces and second seed San Miguel Beermen already waiting in the semifinals after earning outright berths after the eliminations.
Third seed Rain or Shine Elasto Painters followed by Barangay Ginebra San Miguel, Globalport Batang Pier, and Talk 'N Text Tropang Texters all have twice-to-beat advantages in phase 1 of the quarterfinals.
Rain or Shine will face 10th seed Blackwater Elite while 4th seed Ginebra will take on the 9th seed Star Hotshots.
Globalport is on a collision course with 8th seed Barako Bull Energy and finally, 6th seed Talk 'N Text will lock horns with the dangerous NLEX Road Warriors.
Phase 1 of the quarterfinals will commence on Christmas day with Globalport vs Barako Bull set for the curtain-raiser, while a "Manila Clasico" showdown between Star and Ginebra takes place in Friday's main event at 7 pm.
