MANILA, Philippines - The PLDT Home Ultera managed well without imports Victori Hurtt and Sareena Freeman as they trounced the UP Lady Maroons in a straight set victory, 25-11, 25-17, 25-17, to formalize their finals berth in the Shakey’s V-League Reinforced Conference, Saturday, November 22, at the Arena in San Juan.
Aiza Maizo-Pontillas topped all scorers with 13 points as Sue Roces and Janine Marciano combined for 20 markers to seal the deal for the Ultra Fast Hitters.
According to PLDT Head Coach Roger Gorayeb, he was confident about his team but didn’t expect an easy win against the Lady Maroons.
Rookie Maria Lina Molde led the UP Lady Maroons with only 7 points. They will next face the Philippine Navy for the battle for third.
On the other hand, the Philippine Army Lady Troopers swept the elimination round and made short work of the Philippine Navy in their semifinals match, 25-16, 25-10, 25-22, to book a ticket to the championships.
Jovelyn Gonzaga led the way for the Army with 10 markers while Honey Royse Tubino and Nene Bautista contributed 8 and 7 points apiece.
Army coach Kungfu Reyes said they will prepare well for PLDT as what they always do with every opponent they face. He also added that there will be no rooms for mistakes this time as they play in the finals.
