MANILA, Philippines – The welterweight championship clash between Robbie Lawler and Carlos Condit has now a date as the title tilt has been rebooked to happen at the UFC 195 pay-per-view event on January 3, 2016 (January 2 in US).

UFC officials publicly confirmed on Friday, September 4 (PH Time) that the match-up was rescheduled for the organization’s first fight card in 2016.

The scheduled five-round encounter was originally slated to headline UFC 193 on November 15 (November 14 in US), but it had been scratched from the aforementioned event when Lawler suffered a thumb injury in training.

As a result of Lawler’s pullout, the women’s bantamweight title bout between Ronda Rousey and Holly Holm has been moved to UFC 193.

Lawler (26-10) is coming off a successful title defense against Rory MacDonald this past July as he shattered his Canadian opponent’s nose with a powerful left hand about 60 seconds into the fifth and final round to secure a technical knockout victory.

Fighting professionally for more than 14 years, the 33-year-old veteran is riding high on a 4-match winning streak, scoring stellar victories over Jake Ellenberger, Matt Brown, Johny Hendricks and MacDonald.

On the other hand, Condit (30-8) earned the No. 1 contender status despite a 2-3 record in his last five outings and sat out most of 2014 due to a painful knee injury that he experienced in a technical knockout loss to Tyron Woodley in March of last year.

Condit, 31, made a triumphant return to the Octagon last May when he achieved a second-round stoppage of Thiago Alves.

UFC 195 is set to take place at the 16,800-seater MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. – Rappler.com
