MANILA, Philippines – Filipino boxers Aston Palicte and Vergilio Silvano will face one another in a 12-round scheduled bout for the vacant WBO Oriental junior bantamweight title on Friday, November 13 at the Bonifacio Naval Station in Taguig City.
The 9-bout event, promoted by Joven Sports Promotion, is dubbed “Tibay ng Pinoy XI. It begins at 4 pm and is free to the public.
Palicte (19-1, 17 knockouts), a valued protégé of Manny Pacquiao’s assistant trainer Raides “Nonoy” Neri, is riding high on a 9-fight winning streak since suffering a fourth-round stoppage loss to Romnick Magos for the available WBO Asia Pacific Youth flyweight belt in December 2012.
During the aforementioned victory march, the 24-year-old native of Bago City, Negros Occidental captured the vacant IBF Youth junior bantamweight strap by scoring a first-round knockout of Thai boxer Jomyuthlek Sor Narongchai this past January.
On the other hand, Silvano (20-5-, 12 KOs) is a one-time world title challenger, who tried to dethrone IBF minimumweight champion Katsunari Takayama in December 2013 but yielded to the Japanese fighter via unanimous decision.
The 25-year-old southpaw from Dalaguete, Cebu has held 3 local boxing titles and the WBO Oriental light flyweight title, which he won by outpointing Jetly Purisima in September 2013.
However, Silvano is coming off a 10-round unanimous decision defeat to Jetro Pabustan last July.
Aside from the main event, the event will also feature the super lightweight clash between Adones Cabalquinto (21-0 14 KOs) and Al Rivera (13-2, 11 KOs). - Rappler.com
