MANILA, Philippines – The Philippines’ national under-16 basketball team recorded a history-making victory over China on Tuesday, November 3, at the Britama Arena in Indonesia.
Batang Gilas, who a day prior lost to South Korea, ended the match with an 11-0 run to erase a 72-67 lead and hand China their first ever loss in a FIBA Asia under-16 tourney.
The Chinese had gone undefeated since the tournament started in 2009, winning 3 golds in the process.
Gian Mamuyac led the winning side with 22 points, 5 assists, 3 rebounds, and 3 steals, while Samjosef Belangel finished with 11 points, 4 boards, and 4 dimes.
