MANILA, Philippines – Stanley Pringle had a complete game with 23 points, 5 assists, and 4 rebounds to lead the GlobalPort Batang Pier past the Star Hotshots, 101-94, for their first win of the 2015-2016 PBA season on Friday, October 30, at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Pringle controlled the pace of the game and was the main playmaker of the Batang Pier’s quick-tempo attack that allowed them to build a double-digit lead over the now 1-2 Hotshots in the fourth period.
Terrence Romeo also contributed 20 points despite shooting 2-of-14 from long range. Doug Kramer had 14 points and 10 boards, while Keith Jensen had 12 points.
Star was led by the 14 points of Marc Pigris, who also had 7 boards and 3 assists. Mark Barroca was also impressive with 13 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 assists, while veterans PJ Simon and James Yap had 12 and 10 points, respectively.
The Batang Pier, who lost their season opener to San Miguel, went on a 14-2 run to open the fourth period and take a 91-75 lead that proved to be the difference in the ball game.
GlobalPort shot 42% from the field and shot 10-of-32 from downtown. They also forced Star into 22 turnovers that turned to 28 points. The Batang Pier also won the battle in the paint, 52-48
Pringle and company will be back in action next against Barako Bull on Sunday, November 8, while Star will take on the undefeated NLEX Road Warriors on the same day.
