MANILA, Philippines – Although it was postponed for 3 days, the PBA still pulled off a colorful opening ceremony to kick-start its 41st season Wednesday, October 21 at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Asia's first and oldest play-for-pay league put on a festive opening show with a very modern vibe for all its performances.

From a light show bannered by dancers on hover boards and others sporting laser beam glasses, to a shadow play to the tune of the PBA's theme song "Ito Ang Liga" – the show was short yet entertaining for the sizable crowd.

New PBA Commissioner Chito Narvasa reiterated in his opening speech his desire to iron out officiating and ensure consistency of calls as well as make it understandable from the referees down to the casual fans. (Rappler Talk: The PBA's New Commissioner)

He bared he wants to see more running and fast-paced game for the entertainment of fans, and less pulling or tugging that not only tend to be physical but can also slow the game down.

Additionally, Narvasa re-stated the league's support to Philippine national team Gilas Pilipinas, which recently took home the silver medal from the 2015 FIBA Asia Championship.

The 12 men of Gilas 3.0 and head coach Tab Baldwin were honored later in the ceremony for their gallant stand in the continental tilt. Reserve Gary David, though not officially called, was urged by his Gilas teammates to join them at centercourt.

Proceeds from opening day will be donated to the victims of Typhoon Lando.
