MANILA, Philippines – Filipina fighter April Osenio pulled off an upset victory over Malaysian sensation Ann Osman in the co-headliner of ONE Championship’s “Unbreakable Warriors” card on Friday, September 2, at the Stadium Negara in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Entering enemy territory to face a gritty hometown favorite, Osenio overcame significant odds to defeat Osman via first-round submission in their flyweight encounter.

Osenio barely squeezed herself through an eye of a needle against a much-experienced opponent to get her hand raised as Osman appeared on her way to her fifth career win by immediately dragging her Pinay foe to the canvas with a leg sweep,
On the ground, Osman tried to exploit Osenio with short elbows and hammerfists and swiftly passed into side control to pummel more elbow shots.
As Osman moved into a full mount, Osenio amazingly bridged out of danger and quickly transitioned to the top position.
Osman attempted to shrug off Osenio with a scissors sweep, but the latter sustained the pressure until both ladies returned to their feet.
Osenio hardly executed a Judo hip toss as she ended up giving her back to Osman, who capitalized by raining down solid blows to the head.
The 30-year-old Malaysian fished for a rear-naked choke, but Osenio rolled on her belly to break the dangerous strangle.
As Osenio got her groove in dropping bombs from top, Osman forced her way back up by holding onto the midsection of her cage counterpart.
Due to her desperate ploy to pacify her adversary, Osman carelessly left her head out, giving Osenio the opening to latch on a deep guillotine choke.
Osman struggled to defend and remove the threatening submission hold, but Osenio tightly gripped her opponent’s neck to get the tap at 4:09 of the first round.

On the other hand, Osman heads back to the losing territory and downgrades to a professional win-loss slate of 4-3.
Aside from Osenio, Rene Catalan (1-2) gave the Philippines its first win of the night by outpointing China’s Zhang You Liang (0-3) via unanimous decision.
