MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – The Mahindra Enforcers handed TNT Katropa its first loss of the PBA Governors’ Cup, 107-104, and clinched a ticket to a PBA playoffs appearance for the first time in franchise history on Friday, August 26, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Enforcers improved their record to 6-2, which is currently second best in the league standings. TNT dropped to 6-1, but stays ahead of the pack.
Mahindra import James White led his team with 24 points and 10 boards. The Enforcers had 4 guys come off the bench to score double-figures, led by the 15 of Paolo Taha.
Jayson Castro led all scorers with 33 points and added 5 assists. TNT import Mychal Ammons scored 20 points and grabbed 5 boards.
Mahindra pulled away starting with a 3-pointer by KG Canaleta with 4:07 left which extended the team’s lead to 93-87. After Ammons was charged with 3 seconds in the paint, LA Revilla knocked down a 3-ball of his own to make it a 3-possession game.
After an exchange of baskets, White converted a dunk off an alley-oop pass by Revilla with 2:09 remaining to make it a 101-92 game, essentially sealing the win for his team.
With the win over TNT, Mahindra added more momentum to its reputation as a “PBA Giant Killer.” So far this conference, the Enforcers have also already defeated defending champion San Miguel and Alaska.
