Foton downs F2 Logistics in 4 sets to extend finals

MANILA, Philippines - They sure won’t let the championship trophy slip away without putting up a fight.

The two teams will clash in a winner-takes-all Finals Game 3 after the Foton Tornadoes dominated the F2 Logistics Cargo Movers in 4 sets, 18-25, 25-17, 25-22, 25-18, in the second game of the finals series of the Philippine Superliga All Filipino Conference,Saturday afternoon, August 13, at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

The towering Jaja Santiago unleashed 19 points, consisting of 14 attacks, 3 blocks, and 2 aces. Another unstoppable attacker Cherry Rondina also contributed 15 markers.

’yong pag abanse ng F2, it’s mainly our fault kaya we just needed to regroup,” said Foton Coach Vilet Ponce-De Leon pertaining to set one. (F2’s advancement was mainly our fault that’s why we just needed to regroup.) 

The crowd favorites F2 Logistics opened the match with so much hype, 16-12, but did not manage to sustain momentum. Foton snatched the game in the second set with a 16-9 blowout and the Tornadoes cruised until the end.

In the final canto, the Tornadoes buried the Cargo Movers in a 16-14 deficit, and even expanded the lead to 19-14.The squad of Coach Ramil De Jesus weren't able to recover. 

“We are receiving better which we lost in Game 1. We will just prepare for game 3. We will see where we need to improve,” said Foton Coach Ponce-De Leon in Filipino.

Foton recorded a total of 22 excellent receptions.

On the other hand, Galang led the scoring for the Cargo Movers with 16 points. The do-or-die game is scheduled to happen on Wednesday, August 17, at the FilOil Flying V Arena. – Rappler.com
