British gymnast Elissa Downie lands on neck at Olympics

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil - British gymnast Elissa Downie hurt her neck after landing badly during a floor routine during women's qualifying at the Olympic Games on Sunday, August 7.

The 17-year-old was completing a somersault and appeared to hurt her neck as she partially landed on her head.

Downie continued on for a few seconds before stopping mid-routine, holding her head in her hands and feeling her neck.

Medical staff and British team coaches ran to her assistance but Downie managed to walk out of the stadium without help. She later was seen warming up for the vault.

It was the third of 4 rotations for the British gymnast who had already performed on the uneven bars and the beam. – Rappler.com
