Rain or Shine’s Ahanmisi wins PBA Obstacle Challenge

MANILA, Philippines – The 2016 PBA All-Star Weekend opened with Rain or Shine Elasto Painters guard Maverick Ahanmisi winning the Obstacle Challenge against 11 other contestants on Friday, August 5, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Ahanmisi first defeated San Miguel’s Brian Heruela during the one-on-one portion in the first round before finishing the obstacle course the quickest among the 6 finalists in the second round.

According to PBA statistician Fidel Mangonon, Ahanmisi became the tallest player to ever win the event at 6-foot-8 and 5/8 inches.

Ahanmisi finished with a time of 32.95 seconds, defeating Carlo Lastimosa (34.11), Mark Cruz (36.9), Mark Barroca (45.23), Paolo Taha (46.11), and Scottie Thompson (49.38).

Defending champion Jeric Fortuna was eliminated in the first round against Lastimosa. Chris Newsome, Eman Monfort, Chris Banchero, and Jai Reyes all also failed to make the final round. – Rappler.com
