MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – Ateneo Lady Eagles superstar Alyssa Valdez is set to be the muse of the Talk ’N Text Tropang Texters for the opening ceremonies of the 2015-2016 PBA season.
Ateneo Blue Eagles team manager Epok Quimpo confirmed this to Rappler on Tuesday, October 13. He said Valdez is set to walk alongside the Tropang Texters when the PBA commences its 41st season on Sunday, October 18, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
One of the most popular athletes in the Philippines today, Valdez' appearance as the Tropang Texters’ muse will definitely be anticipated by many fans, both from the volleyball and basketball communities.
Volleyball players tapped as muses during the PBA opening isn’t new. Last season, former DLSU volleyball stars Michele Gumabao and Cha Cruz mused for Alaska, and GlobalPort, respectively, while the Batang Pier managed to get hold of another popular volleyball athlete, Rachel Daquis.
There was also some talk that Cruz may return as a muse this season for the Meralco Bolts, but it was revealed during the press conference for the PBA season on Tuesday that job would go to Eula Caballero.
Last PBA season, Filipino-American actress and model Megan Young was the muse of the Tropang Texters.
Valdez, 22, is a reigning two-time UAAP volleyball MVP who’s led the Lady Eagles to consecutive championships, the latest coming after the team swept the season 16-0.
Valdez also just recently won back-to-back Shakey’s V-League MVP awards.
The Tropang Texters are again expected to be title contenders in the upcoming PBA season, especially after they picked Moala Tautuaa and Troy Rosario during the offseason. – Rappler.com
