MANILA, Philippines – Dirk Nowitzki made sure to leave a lasting impression during his “Champions for Charity” soccer match on Wednesday, July 27 (Thursday, Manila time) in Mainz, Germany.
The Dallas Mavericks forward trolled Italy during the 69th minute of the match by attempting a penalty kick that was nowhere close to a goal and flew wide and right.
It was clear Nowitzki was mimicking the hilarious miss of Simone Zaza during Italy’s penalty shootout against Germany in the Euro 2016 quarterfinal.
The NBA All-Star even copied the stutter-step of Zaza approaching the ball before the miss.
“I wanted to hit [the penalty] the Italian way and was able to finish with the same result,” Nowitzki said to Sport1 after the match, according to goal.com.
This summer, Nowitzki signed a two-year, $50 million deal to remain with Dallas in the NBA. – Rappler.com
