MANILA, Philippines - The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) has postponed its scheduled games at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan City on Friday, October 2 due to Typhoon Kabayan.

NCAA had to cancel its Friday triple-header because of the inclement weather that caused heavy rains and strong winds in the metro and suspension of classes in all levels.

According to Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration in its latest bulletin, the tropical storm is heading towards the West Philippine Sea and was last located 70 kilometers northwest of Dagupan City, with maximum sustained winds of 65 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 80 km/h.

The weather bureau also confided that Typhoon Kabayan is moving at a speed of 22 km/h towards the west-northwest and is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by midnight Friday.

As a result, the contest pitting Jose Rizal University against San Sebastian College-Recoletos, the clash between Mapua Institute of Technology and Emilio Aguinaldo College, and the Colegio de San Juan de Letran versus University of Perpetual Help System Dalta showdown have been moved to Thursday, October 8.

Four of the 6 teams slated to strut their wares on the court are all gunning for a spot in the league’s rowdy Final Four picture.

JRU is currently tied with Perpetual Help and Arellano University at third place, while Mapua aims to keep its semi-final contention bid alive.

On the other hand, Letran occupies to No. 1 spot in the team standings and seeks to clinch a twice-to-beat advantage as its rival San Beda College lost to Arellano on Thursday, October 1. – Rappler.com
