MANILA, Philippines – After defeating San Sebastian College-Recoletos last week, College of Saint Benilde kept its momentum going by thumping Lyceum of the Philippines University, 59-56, on a rainy Thursday afternoon, October 1 at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan City.
Back-up playmaker Gerard Castor starred in the Green Blazers’ first winning streak in NCAA Season 91 as he mustered 14 markers, 9 boards and 3 dimes.
“It was good that Castor was there today because we really struggled with the guard position in the season,” Saint Benilde head coach Gabby Velasco said of Castor in the post-game interview.
Graduating gunslinger Jonathan Grey was also in double figures by contributing 13 points to Saint Benilde’s triumph over Lyceum, while JR Ongteco supplied 12 points.
“There were really bad calls, no calls on our part. Coming into this game, we want to prove ourselves that we deserve to win,” Velasco stated.
The Taft-based brigade will enter their final outing of the season against Mapua Institute of Technology on Tuesday, October 6 with a win-loss standing of 5-12.
Meanwhile, Lyceum finishes the NCAA Season 91 men’s senior basketball tournament with a 14-4 slate.
Despite yielding to Saint Benilde, Joseph Gabayni had a double-double performance of 14 baskets and 11 rebounds.
