MANILA, Philippines – After falling short against welterweight champion Robbie Lawler 5 months ago, Carlos Condit aims to make another case for a shot at the Filipino-American fighter's title by squaring off with Demian Maia on the undercard of the UFC 202 pay-per-view event on August 20.
The fight booking was announced by the world's premier mixed martial arts (MMA) organization on Wednesday, June 29 (Manila time).

Condit (30-9), a former World Extreme Cagefighting and interim UFC welterweight titleholder, is coming off a controversial loss to Lawler, dropping a split decision this past January.
The 32-year-old native of Albuquerque, New Mexico has faced stiff competition in recent years, compiling a 7-5 UFC record since 2009 while scoring notable wins over the likes of Jake Ellenberger, Rory MacDonald, Dan Hardy, Dong Hyun Kim, Nick Diaz, and Martin Kampmann.
Maia (23-6), meanwhile, is riding high on a 5-fight winning streak and has only lost twice since moving from middleweight to welterweight in 2012.
The 38-year-old Brazilian's victory parade includes dominant triumphs over Neil Magny, Gunnar Nelson, and Matt Brown.
Also confirmed for UFC 202 is the 3-round light heavyweight tussle between Anthony "Rumble" Johnson and Glover Teixeira, which will be the fight card's co-featured attraction.
It was also confirmed that Donald Cerrone will lock horns with Rick Story in a welterweight bout at UFC 202.
UFC 202, which takes place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, is headlined by the much-awaited rematch between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz. – Rappler.com
