BORDEAUX, France – Gareth Bale scored a blistering free-kick as Wales beat Slovakia 2-1 in their Euro 2016 opener on Saturday, June 11 (Sunday, June 12 in Manila) but his aim was not so precise before kick-off.
The Real Madrid star, 26, was practicing free-kicks in the warm-up when one wayward shot struck a man sitting behind the goal square in the face.
Pictures showed a shaven-headed Wales fan holding tissues over his nose as blood ran down his hands. Reports suggested he had broken his nose.
Bale went over to apologize to the man when he realized what had happened.
When he was presented with a similar shooting opportunity 10 minutes into the game, his aim was rather more accurate.
His dipping 30-yard shot left Slovakia goalkeeper Matus Kozacik grasping at thin air and although Ondrej Duda equalised, substitute Hal Robson-Kanu gave Wales victory in the 81st minute. – Rappler.com
