MANILA, Philippines – After sustaining her first professional mixed martial arts loss two months ago, Holly Holm will have the opportunity to redeem herself as the former UFC women’s bantamweight titleholder is slated to lock horns with Peruvian standout Valentina Shevchenko in the main event of UFC on FOX 20 on July 23.
The fight booking was announced during the broadcast of UFC Fight Night 87 in Rotterdam, Netherlands on Monday, May 9.
Holm (10-1) lost the UFC women’s bantamweight belt to Miesha Tate this past March, falling victim to a fifth-round rear-naked choke.
The 34-year-old American won the 135-pound division’s top prize when she knocked out Ronda Rousey with a head kick in November 2015.
Holm is looking to bounce back at the expense of Shevchenko (12-2), who snapped her 5-fight winning streak when she yielded to current No.1 contender Amanda Nunes via unanimous decision last March.
Shevchenko, 28, made her successful promotional debut in December 2015 by edging out Sarah Kaufman via split decision.
Two more bouts were publicly confirmed for UFC on FOX 20, which takes place at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois.
Anthony Johnson (21-5) squares off with Glover Teixeira (25-4) in the co-headliner, while Edson Barbosa (17-4) battles ex-Strikeforce lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez (22-5). – Rappler.com
