SINGAPORE – Filipino fighters Jimmy Yabo and Cary Bullos fell to Singaporean opposition at ONE Championship’s “Ascent to Power” event on Friday, May 6 at Singapore Indoor Stadium.

Yabo, who was looking for his second-straight triumph inside the ONE Championship cage, tasted a painful third-round stoppage setback to Singaporean standout Benedict Ang in a featherweight showdown.

All throughout the 3-round contest, the 35-year-old native of Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu was not able to mount a serious offense against Ang, who pacified his Pinoy opponent’s leverage in the striking department from start to finish and effortlessly converted 3 of his 4 takedown attempts in the first round.

Ang continued to dictate the pace in the second stanza, where he carried Yabo across the cage for a big slam and mollified his Filipino foe on the canvas by drilling knees to the body while slashing elbows to the head.

The 20-year-old Singaporean wrote the final sentence in the third round by executing a belly-to-back waist lock suplex before trapping Yabo with a crucifix to rain down blows.

Due to the non-stop punches to the head, Yabo was forced to verbally submit at the 3:11 mark of the final frame.

Yabo heads back to losing territory with a downgraded prizefighting record of 5-3 (1 no contest).

Meanwhile, Ang remains undefeated and claims his third-consecutive victory since turning professional in May 2015.

In the other match involving a Filipino fighter, Bullos was overwhelmed by Christian Lee’s high-level grappling pedigree and lost the featherweight fight via first-round submission.

Lee (4-0) compelled Bullos (7-4) to wave the white flag at 2:07 of the opening salvo with a slick d’arce choke to extend his winning streak to 4 fights.

The disappointing defeat to Lee hands Bullos his third-straight loss, with all of them coming by way of submission. – Rappler.com
