MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine national youth basketball team, better known as Batang Gilas, defeated Thailand by 37, 86-49, to sweep the 2016 SEABA Under-18 tournament and win the championship on Thursday, April 28, in Medan, Indonesia.
By finishing first, the Philippines attains one of the 3 spots for the 2016 FIBA Asia Under-18 Championship to be held in Iran in July. The second and third-placers of the tourney, Thailand and Indonesia, also qualified.
Joshua Sinclair had 15 points to lead the Filipinos while former Ateneo Blue Eaglet Gian Mamuyac scored 14. John Bahio also played well with 12 points and 13 boards while Jonas Tibayan and Evan Nelle combined for 22.
Batang Gilas won all of its 6 games in the competition and won by an average margin of 44.7 points. – Rappler.com
