CEBU, Philippines - Filipino boxer Allan Tañada scored his first significant win in 6 years on Friday, April 22, forcing Roy Mukhlis to turn around and quit at :46 of round 8 at Delta Sports Hall in Sidoarjo, Indonesia.

Tañada (14-4-3, 6 knockouts), a native of Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay, Philippines who now resides in Baguio, chopped down the taller Mukhlis (28-6-3, 21 KOs), landing a right hand on the mouth in round 8 which had Mukhlis looking for a way out of the fight. Mukhlis, who challenged for the WBA World super featherweight title in 2010, turned his back to signal retirement from the match.

Mukhlis had previously beaten Filipino boxers Weng Haya and Jaime Barcelona.

The win was a big milestone for Tañada, 24, whose career had fallen on hard times since his 2010 third round knockout win of Rikiya Fukuhara to win OPBF super featherweight title. Tañada had lost two straight fights coming into Friday but his trainer Joven Jorda credits Tañada's skill for the win.

"Allan led with the jab and got on the inside po. Right to body and left hook to the chin of Muhklis po. That is the key for winning of Allan po," said Jorda.

The win earns Tañada the minor vacant World Boxing Foundation Asia Pacific lightweight title. – Rappler.com
