LEGAZPI CITY, Philippines – The National Capital Region (NCR) vowed to secure its 12th straight championship title in the 2016 Palarong Pambansa being held from April 10 to 16 here. (READ: Defending champ NCR races to 7 golds on Day 1 of #Palaro2016)

Jocelyn Marcial, chief of the Education Support Services Division of NCR, expressed confidence that they would again emerge the overall winner, saying NCR athletes thoroughly prepared for the Palaro. The athletes went through rigorous trainings conducted by competitive coaches and trainers.

NCR has been the perennial Palaro champion for 11 years, from 2005 to 2015. (READ: What will it take to eventually beat NCR at Palaro?)

The NCR delegation this year is composed of 665 athletes, coaches, chaperones, and trainers. They are also joined by 98 members of NCR's working committee.

Ligao City is serving as host for the NCR delegation. The delegation is accommodated at the Ligao National High School and Ligao West Central Elementary School–Binatagan (LWCES-B).

There were reportedly shortages in sleeping mats and water at LWCES-B.

Marcial, however, clarified the problems occurred only for several minutes upon the delegation's arrival.

"In fact, Ligao City Mayor Patricia Alsua herself immediately responded to the reported concerns with the help of the acting Schools Division Superintendent Maria Luisa Samaniego," Marcial said.

She also thanked Ligao City for the warm welcome, saying they feel safe and secure in their billeting areas. – Rappler.com
