MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – University of the Philippines now has one foot in the door of the UAAP Final Four round, and if it gets some help from La Salle, the Lady Maroons will soon be all the way inside.
Thanks to a 4-set victory over the UST Tigresses, 17-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-20, on Sunday, April 10, at the Mall of Asia Arena, UP ended its elimination round campaign with an 8-6 record and temporarily holds the fourth seed in the league standings.
UP will officially be in the Final Four if the Lady Bulldogs (7-6) lose to the Lady Spikers on Wednesday. If NU wins that game, there will be a playoff for the last Final Four ticket.
It was an impressive victory for the Lady Maroons, who lost the first set and trailed before winning the second and third sets. They dominated the fourth set, much to the delight of the UP crowd.
Rookie Isa Molde led the Lady Maroons with 23 points, 16 coming on blocks, 4 on services, and 3 on blocks. UST, which ended its season with a 5-9 record, was led by the 20 points from EJ Laure. Cherry Rondina also played well with 11 points. – Rappler.com
