MANILA, Philippines – Pacific Xtreme Combat (PXC) will have renowned referee “Big” John McCarthy as one of the in-cage officials for the Guam-based promotion’s scheduled fight card on Friday, April 8.

It is not McCarthy’s first stint under the PXC umbrella. The organization invited him to officiate on Philippine shores in September 2012, when Filipino-American Harris Sarmiento defeated South Korea’s Seung Hwa Han via split decision.

The 53-year-old American appeared at 3 more PXC events, which included overseeing the late Ale Cali’s successful flyweight title defense against Erwin Tagle in November 2012.

McCarthy, who popularized the “Let’s get it on” catchphrase by delivering his trademark proclamation at the beginning of each bout, has presided over 1,500 matches worldwide since his debut in March 1994. He has officiated in numerous mixed martial arts companies such as Invicta FC, Bellator, World Series of Fighting, Strikeforce and the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

PXC 53, which takes place at Solaire Resort and Casino’s luxurious Grand Ballroom in Parañaque City, is headlined by a welterweight championship clash between current titleholder Zebastian Kadestam and Glenn Sparv.

Meanwhile, Filipino fighter Rolando Gabriel Dy takes on Japanese combatant Koyomi Matsushima in the co-main event.

Also featured at PXC 53 is up-and-coming talent Jon Chris Corton, who squares off with Hawaiian flyweight Riley Dutro. – Rappler.com
