COMEBACK IMMINENT? Floyd Mayweather discussed the possibility of fighting Gennady Golovkin in a return fight, but the road to that bout isn't very simple.

MANILA, Philippines - What is it that they say about boxers and comebacks?

Floyd Mayweather Jr, who is 6 months into retirement following his last bout against Andre Berto, has been talking about possible scenarios which could bring him back into the ring.

Speaking with FightHype, Mayweather says one possibility could be a fight against undefeated middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin, though the offer is qualified with a difficult stipulation.

"I told Triple G what he had to do if he wants a fight with me. He's gotta call out Andre Ward, beat Andre Ward, and then I'll fight him. I haven't seen him call out Andre Ward yet," Mayweather said to FightHype.

What complicates that stipulation is that Golovkin (34-0, 31 knockouts) fights at 160 pounds while Ward (28-0, 15 KOs) is fighting as a light heavyweight at 175 pounds, two divisions above Golovkin.

Golovkin has garnered a reputation as the most avoided fighter in the sport, as evidenced by the linear champion the division, Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez, refusing to fight him at the limit of 160 pounds.

Mayweather, however, has said he thinks Golovkin would be easy work.

"Triple G, not being disrespectful, but he's straight up and down, no special effects. That's easy work. With the [Manny] Pacquiao fight, you know, 10 rounds to two, that was a blowout."

Mayweather says it would be tough to make a fight against Golovkin because Mayweather is a natural welterweight while Golovkin is larger. Mayweather mentioned another name - WBC welterweight titleholder Danny Garcia (32-0, 18 KOs) - who is closer to his weight. Garcia is also handled by advisor Al Haymon, who also handled Mayweather's career.

"If I did think about coming back, there's only one name I'm looking at and that's Danny Garcia. I have to say Danny Garcia because you look at Danny Garcia, he's undefeated and he's a world champion. If I'm going to fight a guy, it's going to be a world champion," said Mayweather.

Many feel that Mayweather (49-0, 26 KOs) will eventually come back to the sport to pass the undefeated record of Rocky Marciano, with whom he shares a 49-0 mark. For now, the 39-year-old seems bent on enjoying retirement.

"Listen, if I want to fight someone, believe me, I'll call you up. As of right now, let me rest. All I'm saying is let me rest. Let me rest. Please let me get 365 days of just rest. 'When you gonna fight again? When you gonna fight again?' All I want to do is just enjoy being retired. It's crazy, I told them when I leave, they still gonna miss me," said Mayweather. – Rappler.com
