MANILA, Philippines – Despite having his hands full in the ongoing preparation for his rubber match against Timothy Bradley Jr. on April 9 (April 10 Manila time), Manny Pacquiao still managed to take time and suggest designs for his outfit that he will wear on fight night.

After Nike severed its ties with Pacquiao due to his controversial remarks on same-sex marriage, the 37-year-old pugilist acquired the services of Eddie Aguilera, a long-time sports apparel designer who was worked with big name boxers.

Aguilera is no stranger to the sport of boxing as he worked with several high-profile boxers in the past, including undefeated WBA featherweight titleholder Leo Santa Cruz, WBO super lightweight champion Terence Crawford, WBC heavyweight titleholder Deontay Wilder and newly-minted WBO welterweight titleholder Jessie Vargas.

Pacquiao is known to be meticulous about the material of his boxing shorts, but the seamstress had no worries and considered it a privilege to design the Filipino boxing icon’s trunks.

“It’s my first time doing his outfit. It’s pretty much my first time doing on certain material. It’s pretty nice experience, and I’m having fun with it,” Aguilera said.

Aguilera was surprised when he found out that Pacquiao once worked in a local tailoring shop at a young age.

“I was surprised that he said he’s sewer. It makes it a little bit nerve-wracking in a good way. It steps up my game,” he stated.

Since Nike owns the rights to the MP logo that the renowned Pinoy southpaw has been using since 2007, Pacquiao’s new fight trunks will have the fist emblem imprinted.

The initial design of Pacquiao’s trunks has not been shown yet to the public, but Aguilera guaranteed that it will be ready in two weeks.

In his May 2015 blockbuster bout versus Floyd Mayweather Jr, Pacquiao earned $2.25 million alone from the sponsorships on his shorts. – Rappler.com
