MANILA, Philippines – Many ringside observers suggest that Manny Pacquiao chose Timothy Bradley Jr as his opponent for his farewell fight on April 9 to secure a sure win in his last fight.
The third encounter between Pacquiao and Bradley is expected to be a continuation of their first two fights, according to most pundits, where the sport’s only 8-division world champion managed to make it look like a one-sided affair.
Bradley picked up a controversial victory over Pacquiao by way of split decision in June 2012, with two judges scoring it 115–113 in favor of the American boxer and the other 115–113 to his Filipino rival.
As per CompuBox statistics, Pacquiao was ahead in all categories, prompting WBO president Francisco "Paco" Valcarcel to create a 5-judge panel to review the bout that all saw the title tilt in support of the renowned southpaw from General Santos City.
Despite the panel's findings, WBO rules do not allow the decision to be overturned, but the governing body recommended a rematch between the two fighters.
In their April 2014 second showdown, Pacquiao avenged the defeat and routed Bradley via unanimous decision to regain the WBO welterweight championship.
Despite early forecasts that the bout will struggle in pay-per-view buys, Pacquiao shrugged off the public’s possible snub of the fight and promised an action-packed contest against Bradley, which takes place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
“It’s going to be a lot of action, and it’s going to answer all the questions that are in the minds of the fans,” he said in an interview with Top Rank.

Pacquiao had his first phase of intense training in his hometown of General Santos City before flying to Los Angeles, California to wrap up his preparations at Freddie Roach’s Wild Card Boxing Club.
It was rumored that the 37-year-old pugilist had a troublesome camp in the Philippines due to his ongoing senatorial campaign for the upcoming elections, but Pacquiao stressed that it went very well for him and his team.
“We did good. Our training is very good in the Philippines. Before we leave there, we sparred 10 rounds,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Bradley continues to grind with boxing coach Teddy Atlas, whom he tapped to prepare him in his WBO welterweight title defense this past November.
Their first venture turned out to be a success as Bradley defeated Brandon Rios by ninth-round stoppage. – Rappler.com
