MANILA, Philippines — Injured star guard Terrence Romeo is optimistic he can return for Globalport in two weeks as they push for a playoff spot in the 2016 PBA Commissioner's Cup.

The 23-year-old injured his right calf on Sunday, March 6 in a game against Blackwater and has since sat out Globalport's game versus Alaska last Saturday.

"It's okay. It's improving, it doesn't hurt much anymore but I need total rest, as in really not do anything. So after two weeks it will be evaluated and strengthened and we'll see if I can come back," Romeo said in Filipino Monday, March 14.

Romeo, who suffered the injury in the second quarter, said he was accidentally kicked at the back of his leg as his man drove past him. He could not remember who he was defending but shared he felt he pulled a muscle when he ran and eventually had difficulty taking a step.

At halftime he had it iced and taped, and then he took a pain killer. He returned in the fourth quarter and finished with 17 points and 6 turnovers.

Romeo said his target is to make it back by the playoffs should his team make it. But it will be an uphill battle for the Batang Pier as they are also playing without Romeo's backcourt partner Stanley Pringle, who is recovering from a sprained ankle.

Globaport is currently in last place in the standings with a 2-5 record and is on a 4-game losing skid. They have 4 games left with the Star Hotshots coming up next on Friday, March 18.

Afterward it'll be a two-week break, including Holy Week, with their next game against NLEX scheduled on Friday, April 1. Globalport will end the eliminations on April 8.

"It's impossible I'm out of this conference because it's improving. There's a good chance I can play by April. Hopefully it'll strengthen," said Romeo, who has sat out back-to-back Gilas Pilipinas practices since last week.

"This is the worst injury for me because all my other injuries are just sprains so that's why I'm extra careful," he added. "I want to make sure it's healed before I go back on the court." — Rappler.com
