MANILA, Philippines - Manny Pacquiao may have been seen wearing Under Armour shoes, but he isn’t in talks for an endorsement deal with America’s second largest sportswear retailer.
That’s what the Baltimore Sun is reporting, cooling down rumors that have swirled over the possibility of the Filipino boxing champion signing with Under Armour.
“Under Armour isn’t in talks with Pacquiao, according to a source familiar with the situation,” the Baltimore Sun reports. Under Armour, which also boasts Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry among its stars, is based in Baltimore, Maryland.
The source reportedly declined to comment further on Pacquiao.
Pacquiao was dropped by Nike following his controversial remarks to TV5 in which he compared couples in same sex marriages to animals. Pacquiao apologized shortly after the statements were made.
Pacquiao, a two-term congressman who is running for a seat in the Philippine Senate, is scheduled to face Timothy Bradley Jr for a third time on April 9 in what Pacquiao says will be his final fight.
Two of Pacquiao’s managers have said the 37-year-old boxer is currently in negotiations for new sponsorship deals, but have declined to mention which companies they are speaking with. – Rappler.com
