MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – Two-time defending champions Ateneo Lady Eagles are on a tear after drubbing the Adamson Lady Falcons, 25-19, 25-23, 25-16, in the UAAP Season 78 women's volleyball tournament on Saturday, February 20, at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The Lady Eagles, led by Alyssa Valdez's game-high 23 points off of 19 kills and 4 service aces, rose to 5-0 and have not lost a game since Season 76.
"We're taking it one game at a time," Valdez said. "As much as possible we want to maintain our consistency, lessen our errors and perform as a team."
"We're still far away from our goal. All the teams are showing different performances so we can't really say what might happen in our coming games," she added.
Amy Ahomiro and Maddi Madayag added 9 and 8 points, respectively, for the surging Ateneo. Jia Morado tallied 16 excellent sets as Valdez praised the setter's impressive play and distribution.
Jessica Galanza led Adamson with 11 points while Jeannalyn Roque added 10 markers.
The Lady Falcons, who managed to keep it close in set 2 but got blasted in the final frame, stumbled to their fourth straight loss in 5 games.
