MANILA, Philippines — Retired NBA player Jason Collins, the first openly gay athlete in major American sports, slammed Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao for his comments on same-sex marriage.
Collins, who came out as gay in 2013, used his Twitter account to call Pacquiao a "bigot."

Pacquiao, who is running for a seat in the senate in May's Philippine elections is receiving severe backlash for saying that those who partake in same-sex relationships are "worse than animals."
Pacquiao, who is set for a third rematch with Timothy Bradley Jr in April and will go on to retire from boxing, has since apologized saying that while he does not agree with same-sex unions because of his religious beliefs, he does not condemn those who do it.
