LILLEHAMMER, Norway - The second edition of the Winter Youth Olympics officially kicked off on Friday, February 12.
King Harald V of Norway opened the winter games, which happens 22 years after he declared open the 1994 Winter Olympics in the same city. Princess Ingrid Alexandra lit the flame, which in 1994 was lit by her father Crown Prince Haakon Magnus.
In the next 10 days, around 1,100 athletes from 71 countries will compete for medals in 7 sports events and 15 disciplines.
The Philippines has no representative in the games. Two Southeast Asian countries - Malaysia and East Timor - are making their debut in the winter youth event.
