MANILA, Philippines - Filipino boxer Jetro Pabustan fell short in his bid for the WBO bantamweight title, losing a technical decision to Pungluang Sor Singyu on Friday, February 12 in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.
The fight was stopped after the seventh round due to excessive bleeding over Pabustan's left eye, which were the product of several head clashes between the right-handed Sor Singyu and the southpaw Pabustan.
All 3 judges scored it a 70-63 shutout for Sor Singyu, who fought at a busier pace and was more accurate with his straight right hands.
Pabustan (26-3-6, 7 knockouts) of Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines has now factored in 12 technical decisions, which account for 5 of his 6 draws and all 3 of his losses.
The win was the first defense of the second reign of Sor Singyu (52-3, 35 KOs), who won the belt by second round knockout against Ryo Akaho in August. His first title reign, which began with a ninth round stoppage of Filipino boxer AJ Banal in 2012, ended in his first defense when he lost to Paulus Ambunda.
The Philippines has two current world champions in WBO/RING magazine junior flyweight champ Donnie Nietes and WBO junior featherweight champ Nonito Donaire Jr. – Rappler.com
