MANILA, Philippines – The Ateneo Lady Eagles improved to 3-0 in the UAAP Season 78 women’s volleyball tournament after sweeping the FEU Lady Tamaraws in 3 sets, 25-22, 25-19, 25-15, on Wednesday, February 10, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay.
Led by the stellar play of reigning two-time MVP Alyssa Valdez, Ateneo established early big leads in each set and held off late FEU runs to come away with the easy win.
Valdez led all scorers with 15 points, while Madeleine Madayag and Jhoana Maraguinot posted 11 and 10, respectively, for the Lady Eagles.
The Lady Tamaraws dropped to 1-2 in Season 78. They were led by the 12 points of Toni Basas, while Jerrili Malabanan dropped 10 points.
Bernadeth Pons was held scoreless for FEU.
Both teams were fairly even in the statistical categories except in spike points, which the Lady Eagles dominated 42-25.
Ateneo also had more excellent digs, 30-21, did better with sets, 38-16, and recorded more receptions, 21-9.
FEU will aim for a 2-2 record when it faces UST on Saturday, February 13, while Ateneo will look for a 4-0 record when it takes on UP on Sunday, February 15. – Rappler.com
