MANILA, Philippines – The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) has suspended Mapua Institute of Technology head coach Atoy Co two games for "unsportsmanlike conduct."
Co, a retired professional basketball player who played 11 seasons mostly with the Crispa Redmanizers in the PBA, was ejected due to continuous complaining with 6 minutes to play in the Mapua’s win over Lyceum of the Philippines University on Friday, September 11.
As a result, Co will miss out the Cardinal’s two games, including the Intramuros-based brigade’s match against Colegio de San Juan de Letran at 4 pm this afternoon.
According to NCAA secretary-general Melchor Divina, league rules state that incurring a second ejection in a season entails an automatic two-game suspension.
It was Co’s second ejection this season as the first one interestingly occurred in a first-round meeting with Lyceum when he took his shirt off while inside San Juan’s Filoil Flying V Arena.
Mapua has won four outings in a row and is knocking on the door for a final four slot. – Rappler.com
