MANILA, Philippines – San Miguel Beermen center and reigning two-time PBA MVP June Mar Fajardo was recognized as the best performer for another conference after being named the Best Player of the Conference for the 2016 PBA Philippine Cup on Sunday, January 24, at the Philsports Arena.
Fajardo, 26, won the award for a fourth time in his budding career after previously being named Best Player for the 2014 Philippine Cup, 2015 Philippine Cup, and 2015 Governors’ Cup.
The 6-foot-11 San Miguel star averaged 23.1 points, 14.4 rebounds, 1.8 blocks, and 1.6 assists a contest during the elimination round in 11 games.
In the semifinals against Rain or Shine, Fajardo was dominant by putting up 31.3 points, 15.7 rebounds, and 2.7 blocks a contest in 6 games.
Fajardo was named the Best Player of the Conference after finishing with 1,407 total points - 490 from his statistics, 505 from votes of the media, 262 from votes of the PBA players, and 150 from votes of the PBA. Fajardo hurt his knee in Game 6 of the series against Rain or Shine and has been out of action since. His Beermen, the defending Philippine Cup champions, currently trail the Alaska Aces 0-3 in the best-of-7 finals series.
Fajardo’s fourth Best Player of the Conference Award puts him right behind Danny Ildefonso, who has 5, for most in PBA history.
